Spearheaded by Elaine Trachman, the founding members established Vermont Fancy Felines (VFF) in 1997.  VFF is a nonprofit club affiliated with the Cat Fanciers’ Association, Inc.  The objectives of the club are many including:  promoting the welfare of all cats; promoting the breeding of pedigreed cats to the standards as accepted by the Cat Fanciers’ Association, Inc.; promoting the sportsmanship, friendship and the sharing of educational information among club members, cat fanciers, and the community; sponsoring one annual cat show in Vermont; and donating a percentage of show proceeds to worthy causes promoting the welfare of cats among others.

VFF sponsored its first cat show in 1998 in Burlington, Vermont.  Since then, the show routinely takes place the first weekend in January of each year.  During the show weekend, VFF provides an informational program for the public in which different breeds of cats are displayed and presented to the audience by the program moderators.  VFF also hosts an auction open to cat fanciers and the general public for the purpose of raising funds to donate to community animal care facilities.  On average the auction raises $5,000 that directly benefits a local shelter. Our next scheduled event is the 2012 Annual Show.  The place and date is yet to be determined.

VFF also continues to support and finance the Veterinary Assistance Program it founded several years ago.  This fund is provided to participating clinics for supplementing veterinary bills for pets of families who might not otherwise be able to provide the care their pet needs.  It is also a source of emergency funds for animals in distress.
